Day and post-congress tours

Day tours

The following day tours are now arranged for accompanying persons for ICD9 at special negotiated rates. We have also arranged two full day tour on the Saturday after the Congress ends for those delegates and accompanying persons who may catch later flights and have a free day.

Tours are organised directly by Windhoek City Tours/Lothem Safaris and all enquiries should be directed to Hané Brink (e-mail: windhoekcitytours@lothemsafaris.com; hane@lothemsafaris.com

You can make a booking using the below form, which will be forwarded directly to Windhoek City Tours/Lothem Safaris who will then confirm your booking and provide payment details. Special rates only apply to registered delegates and accompanying persons of ICD9 who book in advance using the below booking form.

A stall will also be available for the duration of the Congress where late bookings and payments can be made for all tours available during the week. All late bookings for Monday 26 November 2018 must be made at the booking stall by 17:00 on Sunday 25 November 2018.

All tours will depart from the Hotel Safari entrance at 08:00 (please be prompt). For half day tours (mornings only) participants will be returned to the Hotel Safari by 12.30 on those days, so they can partake of the Congress buffet lunch. Lunches for full day tours shall be included as part of the participation costs. For full day tours participants will normally be returned to the Hotel Safari by 17h00. Please bring along a sun hat and an ample supply of drinking water.


Monday 26 November 2018
(morning only)

Historical Windhoek Tour. A guided tour through the development of the city, with reference to the three main eras – the German colonial era, the period of South African rule and Namibian Independence. A rich history, captured in architecture, museums and monuments!

Tuesday 27 November 2018
(full day)

Waterberg Plateau Park. One of the “must see” places in Namibia – nature’s beauty and lots of wildlife, including buffalo and rhino.

Special negotiated price: N$1,650 (including park fees and lunch)


Wednesday 28 November 2018
(half day)

Scenic route. This route is the ideal break away for a morning. It takes you through curving dry riverbeds, over mountains and down into valleys. The road slides through various game farms and more often than not you see more game on this route than on a regular game drive.

Solitaire (Namib Desert). Experience the land of contrasts in this day tour that takes you through the rapidly changing Khomas Hochland over historical and amazing mountain passes with spectacular views into the Namib Desert, with a picnic lunch at Solitaire.

Friday 30 November 2018
(half day)

Western suburbs/Katutura. A guided tour covering the period from the 1959 Old Location uprising to the development of the new township, which concentrates on innovative job creation through own initiatives, women empowerment, government intervention and sponsored projects with a visit to open markets. A real eye opener and true lifetime experience!

Post-Congress tours

Lothem Safaris are now also providing 3-, 4-, 5- and 7-day post-congress tours. Please note that special pricing is available until 31 July 2018.

Option 1: 7-day Southern semi-desert tour.

Option 2: 7 day Himba/Damara cultural tour.

Option 3: 3-, 4- or 5-day West coast and Namib Desert tour.

Option 4: 3 day Etosha National Park tour.

Option 5: 5 day Saltpan to Sand dune safari.

Option 6: 4 day Buffalo safari.

Lothem Safaris will also have an exhibitors stand during the congress, but post congress tours should be made as early as possible to avoid disappointment, as December is peak season.

ICD9 and the Organizing Committee take no direct responsibility for bookings, cancellations and other arrangements and all agreements and contracts are made between delegates personally and “Lothem Safaris”.

ICD9 has also arranged for 3-, 4-, 7- and 8-day post-Congress tours to be organized by “The Luxury Traveler” http://theluxurytraveler.com, who will handle all bookings and arrangements independently. Tours will be available from 1 December 2018.

These tours have been designed to enable you to take in some of Namibia’s breath taking scenery and unique biota and are intended for those wishing to undertake touristic activities after ICD9.
